Frameless Shower Screen Layouts: Wall to Wall, Corner and 3 Panel

A frameless shower screen layout depends on how many walls surround your shower. A wall to wall screen closes a recess between two walls. A corner screen adds a fixed return panel on the open side. A 3 panel slider splits a long recess and puts the entry in the middle.

Sliding or Pivot Door Frameless Shower Screens

A sliding door frameless shower screen needs no swing space, so it suits a bathroom where a vanity, toilet or towel rail sits close to the shower. A pivot door gives a wider way in for the same width, but it needs clear floor where the door swings.

• Pivot doors in this range open inwards or outwards, which helps when an outward swing would hit a vanity.
• Covey sliding doors run on rollers along a #304 stainless steel top rail, close against a soft-close stop, and can be set to open to the left or the right.
• The walk-in gap on a Covey slider runs from about 420mm on the 870 to 890mm size to about 878mm on the 1800 to 2000mm size. On a 3 panel slider it is roughly 600 to 800mm.

Which Frameless Shower Screen Fits Your Bathroom?

• If a vanity or toilet sits within a door's swing of the shower, choose a sliding door.
• If you have clear floor in front and want the widest way in, choose a pivot door.
• If your recess is wider than 2000mm, choose a 3 panel slider so you step in through the middle.
• If your recess is 1200 to 1400mm and you want a pivot door, choose the matte black wall to wall pivot screen, the only pivot model here that reaches 1400mm.
• If your shower is open on one side, choose a corner screen and pick the return panel size separately.
• If you want one fixed panel and no door, choose a walk-in shower screen instead.

Frameless vs Semi Frameless Shower Screens

A frameless shower screen uses 10mm glass with no frame around the panels, while our semi frameless screens use 6mm glass in a slim aluminium frame. Frameless gives the cleaner look and a more solid feel. Semi frameless costs less. Both take up walls that are slightly out of plumb through adjustable wall channels.

Frameless has trade-offs. The glass costs more, it cannot be cut on site, and sliding models have a bottom guide to wipe now and then so the door keeps running smoothly. If the budget matters more than the look, see semi frameless shower screens.

How to Measure for a Frameless Shower Screen

A frameless shower screen is measured at the top, middle and bottom of the opening. Use the smallest figure and order the size range that contains it. The glass is heat-treated after cutting, so it cannot be cut, drilled or notched once it is made.

1. Wall to wall: measure between the two walls at three heights.
2. Corner: measure the door side from the wall to the outside edge of the shower base, then the return side. The door and the return panel are chosen separately, so a 900 x 1000mm corner works as well as 900 x 900mm.
3. Out-of-plumb walls: on Covey screens, the standard 18mm wall channel takes up to 10mm. An optional 45mm wide channel takes up to 20mm and reaches about 25mm further.
4. Just above a size range: order the smaller Covey size with the 45mm wide channel. The glass overlaps less and the walk-in gap is wider than on the next size up.
5. 3 panel screens from 1400 to 2000mm: these are made to measure, so send your top, middle and bottom figures before you order.

Frameless Shower Screen Finishes

Frameless shower screen hardware here comes in seven finishes: chrome, matte black, brushed nickel, brushed gold, brushed gun metal, brushed brass and brushed bronze. Not every layout carries every finish, so check this table before you settle on a colour.

• Brushed bronze is a copper tone, and brushed brass is a darker gold than brushed gold.
• Chrome matches the chrome tapware already in most bathrooms.
• Matte black draws a clear line along the rail and handle, and pairs with black tapware.

Installing a Frameless Shower Screen

A frameless shower screen must be installed by a licensed, qualified glazier, as the listings in this range state. Across Sydney metro, our frameless shower screen installation starts from $429, and the actual amount is the one shown at checkout. A 3 panel screen is quoted for each job.

• Removing and taking away an old screen is quoted separately.
• The shower base, tray, drain and tapware are not included.
