FAQs
What actually is a "Semi-Frameless" shower screen?
It is the hybrid "best of both worlds" design.
- The Frame: It features a slim metal frame around the outer edges (wall and floor) to provide excellent structural support and water retention.
- The Door: Crucially, the door panel itself is frameless. It has no metal border, just the glass handle.
- The Benefit: This gives you the open, airy aesthetic of a frameless screen but with the durability and adjustability of a framed system, usually at a much lower price point.
Should I choose a Sliding or Pivot door for a small ensuite?
This decision is dictated entirely by your available floor space and bathroom layout.
- Wall-to-Wall Sliding Doors: Best For: Small Bathrooms & Ensuites. Why: They have "zero swing." One panel slides behind the other, meaning you don't need to keep the floor area in front of the shower clear. Perfect if your vanity or toilet is positioned close to the shower entrance.
- Pivot / Hinged Doors:Best For: Larger Bathrooms. Why: The door swings outwards into the room (usually opening 90 degrees). You need to ensure the door won't hit the towel rail, toilet, or glass entry door when opened. They offer a wider entry width and a luxurious, minimal look.
How durable are the Matte Black, Brushed Gold and Brushed Nickel finishes?
Coloured hardware is a stunning trend, but quality is key to preventing peeling.
- Matte Black: Our frames use high-grade powder coating or electroplating that bonds to the aluminium. It is incredibly durable against humidity. Tip: Never use acidic silicone dissolvers or harsh scrubbers on black frames.
- Brushed Gold: Designed to add warmth and luxury. We use a finish that resists tarnishing. It pairs perfectly with modern Brushed Brass tapware.
- Brushed Nickel is the "chameleon" of bathroom design. The Tone: It is a warm silver, unlike the cold blue-ish tone of Chrome. The Match: It pairs beautifully with stone tiles (like Travertine or warm Grey Limestone) where Chrome might look too harsh. The Practicality: The brushed texture is excellent at hiding dried water spots and fingerprints, making it a very low-maintenance choice for family bathrooms.
- Maintenance: For all coloured frames, warm soapy water and a soft microfiber cloth are the only cleaning tools you need to keep the warranty intact.
If you love the "Industrial" look, we recommend Chrome and Brushed Gun Metal colours.
- Brushed Gun Metal: This is the trending choice for "Moody" or "Industrial" bathrooms. It is a dark, matte grey (softer than black) that looks incredible against concrete-look tiles or dark timber vanities. It hides fingerprints better than chrome.
- Chrome: The timeless classic. It reflects light, making it match everything. If you are renovating a rental property or want a "crisp" look, Chrome is the safest and most cost-effective bet.
What safety glass standards do you use?
Safety is non-negotiable.
- Australian Standard: All our glass is manufactured to strictly comply with AS/NZS 2208:1996 Safety Glazing Materials.
- Thickness: Semi-frameless screens typically use 6mm Toughened Safety Glass. This is lighter than the 10mm glass used in frameless screens, which puts less stress on the hinges and rollers, ensuring a smoother operation and longer lifespan for the moving parts.
Are there any special considerations for frameless shower screen installation compared to other styles?
Definitely. While a frameless shower screen installation brings major benefits, achieving a perfect fit requires professional measurement and craftsmanship. Because there are fewer frames to compensate for tolerances, precision is key to prevent leaks or instability.
Unlike framed models which may be more forgiving, frameless systems demand professional skill—so investing in expert installation ensures you enjoy all the long-term benefits without hidden issues.
Can I reverse the opening direction (Left or Right)?
Yes, almost all our semi-frameless models are Fully Reversible.
- Installation Freedom: You don't need to order a specific "Left Hand" or "Right Hand" model. During assembly, the entire unit can be flipped or the door hung on the opposite side.
- Why it matters: This allows you to decide on the day of installation which side allows for the easiest entry, ensuring you don't have to squeeze past a vanity unit to get into the shower.

Shop Semi-Frameless Shower Screens
There are many types of shower screen styles, both in appearance structure and function types.
This is also the design of manufacturers to make the products more suitable for various types of consumers. However, even if there are some differences in the appearance and functional structures, the basic component structures are similar.
Divided from the external structure, shower screens are generally divided into three categories: framed, frameless and semi-frame. The framed mainly uses metal materials such as aluminum alloy or stainless steel as the supporting frame and is supplemented with tempered glass or polystyrene material as the plate.
Frameless is a combination of hinges, fixed clips, shear bars, and tempered glass. Semi frame shower screen refers to the framed design only on the outer frame. From the outside, the products are generally arc-shaped. Of course, some manufacturers have designed square and polygonal structures. RJ Bathroom offers a wide range of semi-frame shower screens.
