FAQs
Why should I choose a Sliding Door over a Pivot (Hinged) Door?
The decision usually comes down to one factor: Floor Space.
- The "Zero Swing" Advantage: Unlike a pivot door that swings outwards into the room (requiring roughly 600mm-800mm of clear air), a sliding door glides parallel to the fixed panel.
- Layout Freedom: This means you can position your vanity, toilet, or towel rail closer to the shower entrance without worrying about the glass door hitting them.
- Drips stay inside: When you open a swinging door after a shower, water often drips onto the floor. With a slider, the wet door remains inside the shower enclosure, keeping your bathmat dry.
Should I choose a Sliding Door or a Pivot (Hinged) Door?
This decision is dictated entirely by your available floor space and bathroom layout.
- Wall-to-Wall Sliding Doors:Best For: Small Bathrooms & Ensuites. Why: They have "zero swing." One panel slides behind the other, meaning you don't need to keep the floor area in front of the shower clear. Perfect if your vanity or toilet is positioned close to the shower entrance.
- Pivot / Hinged Doors:Best For: Larger Bathrooms. Why: The door swings outwards into the room (usually opening 90 degrees). You need to ensure the door won't hit the towel rail, toilet, or glass entry door when opened. They offer a wider entry width and a luxurious, minimal look.
Are Matte Black or Brushed Gold & Brushed Nickel sliding tracks durable?
Yes, but the quality of the finish is critical for moving parts.
- Matte Black: We use high-grade electroplated or powder-coated finishes designed to withstand the friction of the rollers.Style Tip: Matte Black tracks create a stunning "picture frame" effect against white subway tiles.
- Brushed Gold & Nickel: These are PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) or high-quality plated finishes. They are resistant to tarnishing and scratching.
- Maintenance: To keep the track smooth and the colour vibrant, simply vacuum the bottom track regularly to remove dust/grit and wipe the top rail with warm soapy water. Avoid harsh chemical sprays on the coloured hardware.
Which finish is best for a "Mood" bathroom: Gun Metal or Brushed Nickel?
Both are trending alternatives to Chrome, but they suit different palettes.
- Brushed Gun Metal: A dark, moody grey. It is perfect for "Industrial" or "Masculine" styles, pairing incredibly well with concrete-look tiles, dark timber vanities, and charcoal grout.
- Brushed Nickel: A warm, soft silver. It is ideal for "Organic Modern" or "Coastal" bathrooms. It pairs beautifully with warm grey limestone, travertine, and light oak cabinetry. It is also excellent at hiding fingerprints!
Can I install a Sliding Screen in a corner (L-Shape)?
Absolutely. You don't need a wall-to-wall niche to use a slider.
- The Setup: We combine a Sliding Door Front with a Fixed Return Panel on the side.
- The Connection: These are joined at the corner using a magnetic seal or a specialized corner bracket.
- Benefits: This gives you the space-saving benefits of a slider even if your shower is positioned in the corner of the room. It’s a popular choice for square 900x900mm shower bases.
Besides, sliding door needs somewhere to go (it needs to slide behind a fixed panel).
- The Rule of Thumb: generally, the door opening will be slightly less than half of the total width.
- Minimum Width: We generally recommend a minimum total width of 1000mm.Why? A 1000mm screen gives you an entry width of approx 400mm-450mm. Anything smaller than this becomes a "squeeze" to get in and out of.
- Ideal Width: For a comfortable entry, a total width of 1200mm or more is perfect.
Can I reverse the slider to open from Left or Right?
Yes, the vast majority of our sliding screens are Fully Reversible.
- Flexibility: You do not need to order a specific "Left Hand" model. During installation, you can choose to install the fixed panel on the left and slide the door to the right, or vice versa.
- Planning: Look at your bathroom layout—position the opening side where it is easiest to access the taps without getting wet, and where you have the most floor space.
