It does not have to, but matching is the easiest way to get a result that looks resolved. Where people get caught out is going wider than the vanity: a 1200mm cabinet above a 900mm vanity overhangs 150mm each side and will look like a mistake unless the wall is otherwise empty. Going narrower is more forgiving, and a 900mm cabinet centred above a 1200mm vanity is a deliberate and common look. Measure the clear wall rather than the vanity, because tapware and shower screens eat into it.

Yes, and 1200mm is the narrowest width where it works properly. With a three door layout each basin gets a door roughly above it and the middle door covers the shared space. Below 1200mm you end up with one person reaching across the other. Be aware that two basins at 1200mm sit close together, so check that the doors clear your tapware when open. If you have the wall for it, 1500mm gives the two basins noticeably more separation.

And a single fixed colour temperature can read cold, so if that matters to you, choose one of the three colour or dimmable models.
