Bathroom Mirror Shapes Compared: Round, Arch, Oval and Rectangle

The right bathroom mirror shape depends on the wall above your vanity and the lines already in the room. Rectangles give the most reflection for their width, round mirrors soften straight tiles, and arch or oval mirrors add height on a narrow wall. Use the table to narrow the shape, then open that shape's range.

A double vanity can take one wide rectangle or two matching pill mirrors, one centred over each basin.

What Size Bathroom Mirror Suits Your Vanity

A bathroom mirror usually looks best when it is no wider than the vanity below it, centred over the basin, with some wall showing on each side. Match the mirror width to the vanity first, then choose a height that suits the wall, your tiles and anything mounted above the basin.

Before you order a bathroom mirror, run through these checks:

  • Measure the vanity width and the clear wall height above the vanity top.
  • Note any window, wall taps, light switch or power point above the vanity.
  • Check whether you want portrait or landscape. Several models hang either way, and the listing says so.
  • Mark the mirror outline on the wall with painter's tape to check the balance.

Framed, Frameless or LED Bathroom Mirrors

Framed, frameless and LED bathroom mirrors differ in how the edge looks and whether the mirror lights the room.

A framed bathroom mirror is the easiest way to repeat your tapware finish at eye level, for example with black tapware or brushed gold tapware. A frameless mirror glues flat to the wall for a floating look. An LED mirror lights the vanity without extra wall lights.

Which Bathroom Mirror Fits Your Room?

  • If your tapware is matte black, brushed gold, brushed nickel or gun metal, choose a framed mirror in the same finish.
  • If you want the lowest cost and a clean, flush look, choose a frameless pencil or bevel edge mirror.
  • If the mirror fogs after every shower, choose an LED mirror with a demister pad.
  • If there are no wall lights near the vanity, choose a backlit or front-lit LED mirror.
  • If you need storage as well as a mirror, choose one of our shaving cabinets instead.

Pencil Edge, Bevel Edge and Copper-Free Bathroom Mirrors

Pencil edge and bevel edge are the two finishes on our frameless bathroom mirrors. A pencil edge is a slim, smooth finish for a simple line. A bevelled edge has an angled border that catches the light and frames the glass without a frame.

  • Copper-free glass: many of our mirrors use copper-free glass with a safety backing. It helps resist the black edge corrosion that standard mirrors can develop in a humid bathroom.
  • Glass and corners: in the models we checked, the glass is 5mm thick, and the Rectta and pencil edge rectangles have R20 radius corners.
  • Sizes to compare: the 1200 x 900mm pencil edge mirror is sized to sit over a 1200mm vanity.

Each listing states its edge, glass and warranty, so check the product page before you order.

LED Bathroom Mirrors: Front-Lit, Backlit and Anti-Fog

An LED bathroom mirror is either backlit or front-lit. A backlit mirror throws a soft halo of light onto the wall behind the glass. A front-lit mirror has a band of light just inside the frame that lights your face from the front.

  • Controls: touch control on the Lukka Orbis, Arco and Rectta LED mirrors; a touchless wave sensor on Mercio Luna; a motion sensor on Venus and Maia, and the Venus turns its light on as you walk in and off about 60 seconds after you leave.
  • Light colour: three settings, from warm (about 3000K) to cool white (4000K) and daylight (6000K).
  • Anti-fog: most LED models here have a demister or heater pad behind the glass; the backlit Lukka Orbis, Arco, Rectta and Ellips models use anti-fog coated glass instead.
  • Power: the Lukka Orbis and Arco backlit models have a 1m lead that can be hardwired or plugged in; Mercio Luna comes with a 1.2m cable for hardwiring.

Installing a Bathroom Mirror, Delivery and Pickup

How you install a bathroom mirror depends on its type. Frameless pencil and bevel edge mirrors glue straight to the wall with neutral cure silicone, not acid cure. Framed mirrors and the LED mirrors we checked hang on the wall brackets supplied. Any hardwired LED mirror needs a licensed electrician.

  • Installation in Sydney: we offer installation for 600–900mm mirrors and 1200–1500mm mirrors.
  • Pickup: pick-up is free and needs no booking from our Sydney warehouses. Poseidon mirrors, about a fifth of this range, can also be picked up free from Dandenong South (VIC).
  • Viewing: to see a mirror before you buy, call 0480 746 325 to view it in Sydney by appointment.
  • Delivery: free metro delivery on orders over $2,000 in Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra, $2,500 in Brisbane and Adelaide, and $3,200 in Perth.

Bathroom Mirrors FAQs

What type of mirror is best for a bathroom?

The best bathroom mirror suits your vanity width, your tapware finish and how steamy the room gets. Choose a frameless mirror for a clean, flush look at the lowest cost, a framed mirror to repeat your tapware colour, or an LED mirror if you want built-in light and a demister pad that keeps the glass clear after a shower. Copper-free glass with a safety backing helps resist black edges in a humid room. Compare frameless mirrors, framed mirrors and LED mirrors.

What size mirror should go above a vanity?

Choose a bathroom mirror that is no wider than the vanity below it, and centre it over the basin with some wall showing on each side. As a guide, a 600mm vanity suits a 500–600mm round mirror or a 450×900mm pill. A 900mm vanity suits an 800mm round or a 900×750mm rectangle. A 1200mm vanity suits a 1200mm-wide rectangle or two pill mirrors. Mark the outline with painter's tape before you order, and match widths in our 600mm and 1200mm vanities.

Where can I buy bathroom mirrors in Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane?

You can order every bathroom mirror on this page online at trade prices. In Sydney, pick-up is free and needs no booking, and you can call 0480 746 325 to view a mirror by appointment. In Melbourne, Poseidon mirrors can be picked up free from Dandenong South (VIC). Pick-up and viewing are not offered in Brisbane for mirrors, so Brisbane orders are delivered, with free metro delivery on orders over $2,500; in Sydney and Melbourne it starts at $2,000. We also offer mirror installation in Sydney for 600–900mm mirrors.

Do LED bathroom mirrors need an electrician?

It depends on how the LED mirror is powered. A hardwired LED mirror must be connected by a licensed electrician. Some models give you a choice: the Lukka Orbis and Arco LED mirrors have a 1m lead that can be hardwired or plugged in. Mercio Luna mirrors come with a 1.2m cable for hardwiring. Plan the power point or cable position before tiling, at the height where the mirror will hang. Browse our LED mirrors and check each listing for its power details.

How much do bathroom mirrors cost?

Bathroom mirrors on this page are currently listed from $59 to $679. Plain frameless mirrors in pencil or bevel edge sit at the lower end, starting with a 500mm round and a 450×600mm rectangle. Framed mirrors cost more. LED mirrors start at about $240 and rise with size, frame and features such as a motion sensor. The largest half-moon LED arch sits at the top of the range. All prices are trade prices, and free metro delivery applies once your order passes your city's threshold.

Which bathroom mirror shapes are in style?

Pick a bathroom mirror shape that echoes something already in the room. Curved shapes, such as arch, oval and pill and round mirrors, soften a bathroom full of straight tiles and cabinets. Two pill mirrors side by side are a popular look over a double vanity. An arched top draws the eye upward, which helps a small bathroom feel taller. Rectangles remain the practical choice for wide vanities because they give the most reflection.

Should I use one mirror or two over a double vanity?

Both work over a double vanity, so the choice depends on the look you want and how you share the space. Two matching mirrors, one centred over each basin, give each person their own zone and leave a gap for a wall light. One wide mirror gives a bigger, continuous reflection and makes the room feel larger. Two mirrors also suit a wall with a window or wall light in the centre. For a 1500mm vanity, compare a 1500×900mm rectangle with two 450×900mm pill mirrors. Browse our 1500mm vanities to match the width.
