400mm to 1800mm

Wall Hung Vanities

Wall hung vanities, also called floating vanities, fix to the wall and leave the floor clear underneath. The gap makes a small bathroom look bigger and the floor quicker to mop. This page holds our full wall hung range, from 400mm powder room units to 1800mm double bowl vanities. Cabinets come in PVC, plywood and stainless steel, in gloss and matte white, black, grey, olive green, and oak and walnut timber looks, with fluted, curved and Hampton shaker fronts. For narrow rooms, see the 250–395mm deep models in slimline vanities. To shop by width, go to 600mm, 900mm or 1200mm vanities, or compare them with freestanding vanities. Every vanity here can be picked up free from our Sydney warehouses, and Poseidon and Koti models can also be collected in Dandenong South, VIC.

What a Wall Hung Vanity Is and When It Suits Your Bathroom

A wall hung vanity suits a bathroom where the waste pipe comes out of the wall and the wall behind it is masonry or has timber noggins. Every cabinet on this page hangs entirely on the wall, from a 400mm powder room unit to an 1800mm double bowl, so those two checks come before style or colour.

Choose a wall hung vanity when:

  • the waste and water pipes already come out of the wall, or you are renovating and can move them there
  • you want the floor tiles to run under the cabinet in a small room
  • the wall already has noggins, or can be opened to add them, to carry the cabinet, the top and a basin full of water

Look at freestanding instead when the waste comes up through the floor and you are replacing a vanity without retiling.

Wall Hung or Freestanding Vanity: Which Suits Your Plumbing?

A wall hung vanity needs a wall waste, while a freestanding vanity with a kickboard can sit over a floor waste and hide the pipe. Moving a floor waste into the wall means a plumber and usually new tiles, so check where your pipe comes out before you compare styles.

Wall Hung Vanity Sizes: Width, Depth and Cabinet Height

This wall hung range splits almost evenly by width: about half is 900mm wide or less, and about half is 1200mm to 1800mm. Standard cabinets in the models we checked are 450 to 500mm deep, and narrow models drop to 220 to 395mm, so measure depth as carefully as width.

Cabinet height also differs between ranges. In the models we checked it runs from 400mm (Estella) to 560mm (Hera), which changes how much fits in the drawers and how far the cabinet sits above the floor once the top height is set.

Which Wall Hung Vanity Fits Your Bathroom?

  • If the room is a powder room or a tight ensuite, choose a 400 to 450mm model from our ensuite and slimline vanities.
  • If the waste pipe sits to one side, choose a model with left or right hand drawers, such as Camden 750mm or 900mm, so the drawers clear the pipe.
  • If two people use the basin at the same time, choose a 1500mm double bowl.
  • If the vanity sits beside the shower or gets splashed every day, choose a PVC cabinet from our waterproof vanities.
  • If the waste comes up through the floor and you are not retiling, choose a freestanding vanity instead.

Single or Double Bowl Wall Hung Vanities

Double bowl wall hung vanities start at 1200mm on this page, and about a fifth of the range has two basins. At 1200mm a single bowl usually leaves more usable bench on each side. 1500mm is the first width where each basin gets its own bench space, and 1800mm suits a main bathroom with two daily users.

A double bowl needs two wastes in the wall, so ask your plumber before you order if only one is there now. Compare single and double layouts at the same width on the 1500mm vanities page, or start with the Eden 1500mm single bowl in Prime Oak.

Wall Hung Vanity Materials and Finishes

The cabinet board decides how a wall hung vanity copes with water. About two-fifths of this range is PVC, which does not swell when wet. The rest is plywood, moisture-resistant MDF or stainless steel, and each needs slightly different care.

For the front style, about a third of the range has fluted fronts, about a quarter has Hampton shaker panels and about a quarter has curved ends. For warmer woodgrain tones, see our timber vanities. Clean any finish with a soft damp cloth and avoid abrasive cleaners. Warranty terms are listed on each product page.

Installing and Collecting Your Wall Hung Vanity

A wall hung vanity needs timber noggins or a masonry wall behind it, because the wall carries the cabinet, the top and a basin full of water. Many cabinets here are sold as cabinet only, so you choose a ceramic, solid surface or stone top when you order.

Our Sydney metro vanity installation covers the cabinet, top, tap and waste connections:

  • Up to 900mm wide: $329
  • 1200 to 1500mm, single bowl: $449
  • 1200 to 1500mm, double bowl: $569
  • Removing and disposing of your old vanity: $100 extra

We do not install 1800mm vanities. Prices can move slightly, and the checkout shows the final amount.

Pickup is free and needs no booking. Besides Sydney and Dandenong South, about 40 models can be collected from Rocklea, QLD, including Avalon, Polar, Riva, Rome Curve and Miami. To see a vanity before you order, call 0480 746 325 to book a viewing at a Sydney warehouse. Free metro delivery applies to orders over $2,000 in Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra, over $2,500 in Brisbane and Adelaide, and over $3,200 in Perth. To finish the wall, pick a shaving cabinet in the same width.

The RJ Bathroom team in Sydney wrote this guide from the product listings in this collection. If a listing and this guide ever differ, the listing is correct, and you can call us to check before you order.

Wall Hung Vanities FAQs

Is a wall hung vanity the same as a floating vanity?

Yes. Wall hung, floating and wall mounted all describe a vanity fixed to the wall with open floor underneath. Every model on this page is that type, from 400mm powder room units to 1800mm double bowl vanities. If you see a cabinet called floating on another site, check the photos for legs before you compare it, because a cabinet on legs stands on the floor. Noah is one range sold both as a wall hung vanity and as a freestanding vanity, in the same gloss white finish.

How is a wall hung vanity attached to the wall?

A wall hung vanity is screwed to the wall, so the wall behind it carries the cabinet, the top and a basin full of water. That needs timber noggins inside a framed wall, or a masonry wall. Plasterboard on its own is not enough. If you are renovating, ask your builder to add noggins at the height you want before the wall is sheeted. If the wall is already finished, have an installer check what is behind the plaster. Our Sydney small vanity installation is $329 for vanities up to 900mm wide.

Can I install a wall hung vanity if my plumbing comes up from the floor?

You can, but the floor waste will show under the cabinet unless a plumber moves it into the wall. A wall hung vanity is designed for a waste that comes out of the wall. Moving the pipe usually means opening the wall and retiling, so it suits a full renovation more than a quick swap. If you want to keep the floor waste, a freestanding vanity with a kickboard hides the pipe. Noah is sold both ways, so you can keep the same gloss white cabinet whichever plumbing you have.

What are the disadvantages of a wall hung vanity?

A wall hung vanity asks more of your wall and plumbing. It needs a waste that comes out of the wall and timber noggins or masonry behind it, which can add plumbing or building work in an older bathroom. The cabinet also stops above the floor, so it holds less than a freestanding cabinet of the same width that runs down to a kickboard. If none of that is a problem, the clear floor makes a small room easier to clean. If it is, compare our freestanding vanities.

Why do some wall hung vanities have left or right hand drawers?

Left or right hand drawers put the drawers on the side away from the waste pipe. On a wall hung vanity the waste comes out of the wall behind the cabinet, and a drawer cannot run over it at full depth. With the drawers on one side and a door over the pipe, every drawer keeps its full depth. On this page, Camden 750mm and 900mm and Chester 900mm let you choose the drawer side. Check where your waste sits before you order, then pick the matching version of the Camden 900mm.

Can I buy a wall hung vanity without a top?

Yes. Many wall hung vanities on this page are sold as cabinet only, and you add a ceramic, solid surface or stone top as an option when you order. That lets you choose the basin style and the tap hole position. In ranges such as Artis, stone tops are made to order, take 3 to 5 days and cannot be returned, so confirm the tap hole position (12, 2 or 10 o'clock) before you pay. Some compact models and the stainless steel Midnight Marble range come with an integrated ceramic basin instead.

How much does it cost to install a wall hung vanity in Sydney?

Our Sydney metro installation costs $329 for vanities up to 900mm wide, $449 for 1200mm to 1500mm single bowl vanities and $569 for 1200mm to 1500mm double bowl vanities. Removing and disposing of your old vanity is $100 extra. We do not install 1800mm vanities. The installer hangs the cabinet and top and connects the tap and waste. Prices can move slightly, so the checkout shows the final amount. Add vanity installation to your order once the wall has noggins and a wall waste in place.
