Semi Frameless vs Frameless Shower Screens
A semi frameless shower screen uses 6mm toughened glass held by a slim aluminium frame and adjustable wall channels. Our fully frameless shower screens use heavier 10mm glass. The frame lets a semi frameless screen take up walls that lean, and it keeps the price lower.
- Glass: 6mm toughened safety glass on every semi frameless screen here, against 10mm on our frameless range.
- Frame: most models frame the wall edges and the track. The diamond screen and the black grid door are fully framed, so check the frame details on each product page.
- Adjustment: sizes are sold as ranges, and the Covey wall channels take up to 20mm of out-of-plumb wall.
- Look: you see a thin metal line along the walls and track, which matters less when the frame matches your tapware.
How to Measure for a Semi Frameless Shower Screen
A semi frameless shower screen is measured at the top, middle and bottom of the opening. Use the smallest figure and order the size range that contains it. The wall channels take up the difference, and the toughened glass cannot be cut or drilled once it is made.
- Wall to wall: measure between the two walls at three heights.
- Corner and corner entry: measure each side from the wall to the outside edge of the shower base or hob.
- Diamond: measure along each wall from the corner to the outside edge of the diamond base.
- Way in: check the walk-in opening listed on the product page. It runs from about 400mm on the smallest 3 door slider to about 766mm on the largest wall to wall slider.
- Height: most models stand 2000mm high; some chrome and matte black models stand 1900mm.
If you are unsure your opening will fit, call our renovation expert team on 0480 746 325 with your measurements, or ask how to measure at home, and we will check that the screen you want can be installed.
Sliding or Pivot Door Semi Frameless Screens
A sliding door semi frameless screen needs no swing space, so it suits a recess with a vanity, toilet or towel rail close by. A pivot door gives a wider way in for the same width, but it swings out and needs clear floor in front. Compare the chrome corner sliding door screen with the chrome corner pivot door screen to see both, or browse all pivot and hinged shower screens.
Most semi frameless doors here can be set up to open from the left or the right during installation. A few models ask you to choose the opening side when you order, so check the options on the product page.
If you are still deciding
- If your recess is under about 1030mm wide, choose the 3 door sliding screen.
- If your recess is 1400mm wide or more, choose the centre opening slider.
- If a vanity or toilet sits close to the shower, choose a sliding door.
- If you have clear floor in front and want the widest way in, choose a pivot door.
- If your base is square and you want to step in at the corner, choose a corner entry screen.
- If your base has five sides, choose the diamond screen.
Semi Frameless Shower Screen Finishes
Semi frameless shower screens here come in five frame finishes: chrome, matte black, brushed nickel, brushed gold and brushed gun metal. Match the frame to your tapware, because the frame shows along the walls and the track.
- The brushed finishes are available on the Covey wall to wall, corner and corner entry lines.
- The centre opening, 3 door, curved and diamond screens come in chrome and matte black only.
- The matte black grid door has black grid lines printed on the glass for a warehouse look.
