Choosing an LED Shaving Cabinet: The Five Ranges Compared

Choose an LED shaving cabinet by its light first, then by shape and size. The five ranges in this collection differ most in how the light works: three switchable colours, one dimmable daylight tone with lit shelves, or a fixed cool white. Finish and body material come next.

Which LED Shaving Cabinet Fits Your Bathroom?

  • If you want to switch between warm and daylight, choose Avola or BH.
  • If you want a timber-look finish, choose Avola in sandy oak or walnut mocha oak.
  • If you want shelves that light up when the door opens, choose Olivia or a matte white touch control cabinet.
  • If you want a round mirror with storage, choose Athena round in 600 or 750mm.
  • If your wall is narrower than 600mm, choose a 450 or 500mm model from our small shaving cabinets.
  • If you do not need a light at all, browse our non-lit shaving cabinets.

LED Shaving Cabinet Sizes to Match Your Vanity

An LED shaving cabinet usually matches the width of the vanity below it, or sits slightly narrower. A matching width gives one clean line across the wall. A round or arch cabinet looks best a little narrower, with clear wall on both sides.

Vanity widthLED cabinet widthModels in this collection

1200mm1200mmAvola, matte white touch control, BH, Olivia pill, Athena pill
1500mm1500mmAvola, matte white touch control, Olivia pill, Athena pill

LED shaving cabinet heights vary more than widths. The Athena pill cabinets are 600mm high, Avola and matte white touch control cabinets are 750mm, and the tall 450mm Athena and Olivia models are 900mm. Most cabinets here are 150–160mm deep, so check the clearance over a shallow vanity.

Light Colour, Dimming and Switches on LED Shaving Cabinets

On an LED shaving cabinet, daylight at 6000–6500K shows true skin tones for shaving and makeup, while warm 3000K suits a calm evening bathroom. Only some ranges let you switch, so check the light before the shape.

  • Three colours, dimmable: Avola switches between 3000K, 4000K and 6500K. BH switches between 3000K, 4000K and 6000K with a touch-less sensor under the cabinet.
  • One colour, dimmable, lit shelves: Olivia and matte white touch control cabinets use a 6000K light, plus a second strip inside the cabinet.
  • Fixed cool white: Athena uses a 6500K light with a sensor on the mirror. It does not dim or change colour.

For a pencil-edge mirror with three light colours over a 900mm vanity, compare the BH 900mm LED mirror shaving cabinet.

Demisters and Shaver Sockets in LED Shaving Cabinets

No LED shaving cabinet in this collection currently comes with a demister pad or a built-in shaver socket. Plan for both before you buy. Good ventilation keeps the mirror clear, and a shaver needs its own power point, planned with your electrician.

  • To keep the mirror clear, run the exhaust fan during and after a shower.
  • If an anti-fog mirror matters most, all of our LED mirrors are anti-fog, and you can keep storage in the vanity below.
  • For a shaver or electric toothbrush, ask your electrician for a separate power point when the cabinet cable goes in.

PVC and PVC-Film LED Shaving Cabinets for Steamy Bathrooms

LED shaving cabinets here come in two body types. Avola, Olivia and the matte white touch control cabinets have a PVC body that does not soak up moisture. Athena cabinets use engineered board with a PVC film finish, so they need a ventilated room and dry edges.

With either body, standing water on the cabinet or water running down the wall causes damage over time. Warranty terms differ by range and are listed on each product page. For a steamy ensuite, pair the cabinet with one of our waterproof PVC vanities.

Installing an LED Shaving Cabinet: Wiring, Fixing and Recessing

An LED shaving cabinet in this collection is wall mounted and, in most ranges, hard-wired. Avola, Olivia, Athena and matte white touch control cabinets connect to mains power behind the cabinet, so a licensed electrician must make the connection. Check each product page for its connection type.

  1. Mark the cabinet height and centre line over the vanity before the wall is lined.
  2. Ask your electrician to bring the cable out where it will sit hidden behind the cabinet.
  3. Fix large cabinets with glass doors into timber noggins or steel framing, not plasterboard alone.
  4. Have the electrician connect the cabinet, then test the light and switch.

The Athena and matte white touch control cabinets are surface mounted, so their full depth sits in front of the wall. They are not made to recess. Sydney customers can add our installation service with their order.

Delivery, Pickup and Viewing for LED Shaving Cabinets

Every LED shaving cabinet here can be picked up free from our Sydney warehouses, and you can view stock in Sydney by appointment on 0480 746 325. About a third of the range, the Olivia and matte white touch control cabinets, can also be collected free from Dandenong South in Melbourne.

Free metro delivery applies to orders over $2,000 in Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra, over $2,500 in Brisbane and Adelaide, and over $3,200 in Perth. Other areas are calculated at checkout by postcode.

The RJ Bathroom team in Sydney wrote this guide from the product listings in this collection. If a listing and this guide ever differ, the listing is correct, and you can call us to check before you order.

LED Shaving Cabinets FAQs

Are LED shaving cabinets worth it?

An LED shaving cabinet is worth it if you want face-level light and storage on the same wall. The light sits in front of you, so it lights your face evenly instead of casting shadows from a ceiling downlight. It also moves toothbrushes and skincare off a small vanity top. The trade-off is installation: most models here are hard-wired, so you need a licensed electrician. If you only want the light, an LED mirror is simpler. If you only want storage, compare our non-lit shaving cabinets.

Do you need an electrician to install an LED shaving cabinet?

Yes, for the hard-wired models, which make up most of this collection. Avola, Olivia, Athena and matte white touch control cabinets connect to mains power behind the cabinet, and in Australia that connection must be made by a licensed electrician. Plan the cable position before the wall is tiled, so it sits hidden behind the cabinet. Each product page lists the connection type and power rating. Sydney customers can add our installation service for the cabinet itself, while the mains connection still needs a licensed electrician.

Do LED shaving cabinets have a demister or shaver socket?

Not in this collection. No LED shaving cabinet here currently comes with a demister pad, and none has a built-in shaver socket. To keep the mirror clear, run the exhaust fan during and after a shower. If an anti-fog mirror matters most, all of our LED mirrors are anti-fog, and you can keep storage in the vanity below. For a shaver, ask your electrician for a separate power point before the wall is lined. Each product page lists exactly what is included, so check it before you order.

What are the disadvantages of LED mirror cabinets?

An LED mirror cabinet has three main trade-offs. First, most models here are hard-wired, so a licensed electrician must connect them and the cable needs planning before tiling. Second, most cabinets here are 150–160mm deep, so check the clearance above a shallow vanity. Third, the light differs by range: Athena has a fixed 6500K cool white, while Avola and BH switch between three colours. None here has a demister. If those trade-offs matter, compare each listing, or browse our non-lit shaving cabinets.

Can I get an LED shaving cabinet delivered to Perth, or pick one up?

Yes. We deliver LED shaving cabinets Australia-wide. Perth metro delivery is free on orders over $3,200, and smaller orders are calculated at checkout by postcode. Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra metro orders ship free over $2,000, and Brisbane and Adelaide over $2,500, so adding a matching vanity can bring an order over the threshold. Pickup is free from our Sydney warehouses, and you can view stock in Sydney by appointment. Olivia and matte white touch control cabinets can also be collected free from Dandenong South in Melbourne.
