Size the mirror to the vanity below it: the same width or slightly narrower usually looks right. A 450x900mm arch suits a 500 to 600mm vanity or a narrow powder room wall. The 600x900mm arch suits a 600 to 900mm vanity. Over a 1200 to 1500mm double vanity, either hang two arches, one above each basin, or use a single half moon mirror: the 1200x800mm version suits a 1200 to 1500mm vanity and the 1500x1000mm version suits 1500 to 1800mm. Both have a flat base and a curved top, but the proportions differ. An arch mirror is taller than it is wide, like a doorway, so it gives a head-and-shoulders reflection while taking little wall width. A half moon mirror is wider than it is tall, with a full semicircle on top, so it covers a long vanity with a single piece of glass. Our arch LED mirrors come with a lead that can be hardwired or plugged in. Hardwiring to the mains must be done by a licensed electrician, so plan the power point or cable position before the wall is tiled. There are two styles. Backlit arches throw a halo of light onto the wall and use anti-fog glass. Our Arco framed LED arches, in matte black, brushed gold, brushed nickel or gun metal, warm the glass to stop it misting, and add a dimmer and three light colours. ▸ How is a frameless arch mirror installed?
Frameless pencil edge arches are glued to the wall with a neutral cure silicone, run in vertical beads down the back, which lets the adhesive breathe and set evenly. Never use acid cure silicone, because it attacks the mirror backing and causes dark spots. Framed arch mirrors hang on wall fixings instead, which makes them easier to move later.
