The main trade-off is storage. A wall hung basin has no cabinet underneath, so toiletries need a shelf, a mirror cabinet or a basin with built-in bench space such as the Kontura or Roccia. The waste and trap are also on show, so most people choose a bottle trap that matches the tapware. The wall must be strong enough to carry the basin, which means studs or noggins at the right height before the wall is lined. In return you get a clear floor that is quicker to clean and makes a small room feel larger.
▸ Can a wall hung basin sit on a benchtop instead?
Several of our ceramic models are made for both. The Kliff, Kontura and Crete basins can be fixed to the wall or placed on a vanity or bench as an above counter basin, and each product page says so. On a benchtop you only need a waste hole cut in the top, and the tap hole still takes a standard basin mixer. The Crete Mini, Ellips, Carrida and solid surface models are made for wall mounting only, so choose a dual-use model if you may change the layout later.

Our ceramic wall hung basins come with a wall fixing kit, and the basin is bolted into solid support behind the wall lining, usually timber studs or noggins set at the right height. Plan the water supply and waste position before tiling so the pipes line up with the basin's waste outlet. Agree the rim height with your plumber so it suits the people using the room. A licensed plumber should connect the waste and check that the fixings suit your wall type, especially for the heavier solid surface models.
▸ What size wall hung basin suits a small ensuite or powder room?
Measure the wall width and how far the basin can project into the room. For a separate toilet or narrow powder room, the Crete Mini is only 255mm deep, and the 385mm Crete and 417mm Kliff fit tight walls. For an ensuite, a basin around 500 to 530mm wide, such as the Ellips 500 or the slim 360mm-deep Crete 530, gives a comfortable washing area. Main bathrooms suit 600mm and wider, including the Kliff 605 and 710 or the 900mm solid surface basins.
▸ Should I choose a basin with a tap hole or without?
A basin with a tap hole takes a basin mixer mounted on the basin itself. This is the simplest option because the plumbing comes up through the wall below. A basin with no tap hole pairs with a wall mixer and spout set, which keeps the basin clear and easy to wipe down, but the water points must be set into the wall at the right height before tiling. Check that the spout is long enough to reach over the bowl. Our Kliff and Ellips basins come in both versions, so you can match the basin to your plumbing.
