FAQs
Should I choose a Wall Hung or a Freestanding (Floor Mount) vanity?
This is the biggest decision you will make at this size! A 1500mm unit is the perfect "crossover" size where both options work beautifully, but they serve different needs:
- 1500mm Double Bowl: Perfect for busy couples sharing a master ensuite. It allows two people to get ready at the same time. Trade-off: You lose some central bench space and internal drawer space (due to the extra plumbing pipes).
- 1500mm Single Bowl (Offset or Centred): Ideal for family bathrooms or makeup enthusiasts. A single bowl leaves you with a massive, uninterrupted stretch of benchtop for hair styling tools, cosmetics, and shaving gear, plus maximum drawer storage underneath.
The choice between a Wall Hung Vanity and a Freestanding Vanity impacts both the visual size of your room and your installation budget.
- Wall Hung (Floating): This is the go-to for modern bathrooms. Because a 1500mm vanity is very wide, making it "float" off the ground shows more floor tiles, tricking the eye into thinking the room is much larger and less cluttered. Note: Your plumbing must come out of the wall.
- Freestanding (Floor Mount): Excellent for maximizing storage. Because the cabinet extends to the floor, you gain significant internal space. It is also the most cost-effective choice for renovations, as the kickboard hides existing plumbing pipes coming up from the floor, saving you from expensive plumbing relocation.
Make sure you measure wall-to-wall to make sure you are choosing a design that fits your space. Once you know your size restrictions, it's time to look at your options. Standard sizes include 400mm, 600mm, 750mm, 900mm, 1050mm, 1200mm, 1500mm and 1800mm.
Is a 1500mm vanity too big for my bathroom?
A 1500mm unit is a large fixture, so precise measurement is essential. It is typically the ideal size for a master ensuite or a main family bathroom.
- Clearance Requirements: You need to ensure you have enough room not just for the width, but for the depth (usually 460mm). More importantly, check the clearance in front of the vanity. We recommend at least 700mm of clear floor space in front of the drawers so you can open them fully and stand comfortably.
- The Door Swing: Always check your bathroom door's swing radius. Ensure the door will not hit the corner of the vanity when fully opened. If space is slightly tight, consider a Fluted Curved Vanity, as the rounded corners soften the footprint and allow for easier foot traffic.
Are Timber Vanities suitable for a wet bathroom environment?
Yes, provided you choose the right materials. A Timber Vanity brings incredible warmth and a spa-like, organic feel to the bathroom, pairing beautifully with both white tiles and dark moody settings.
- Moisture Resistance: Our timber-look vanities are crafted using High Moisture Resistant (HMR) MDF or durable thermolaminated vinyl wraps with realistic woodgrain textures. They give you the beautiful look of natural timber but are engineered to withstand the humidity and temperature fluctuations of a bathroom without warping or splitting like solid raw wood can.
While a Waterproof Vanity is a specific upgrade made from high-density PVC board, meaning it contains zero wood products.
- When to upgrade: We highly recommend PVC waterproof vanities for high-traffic family bathrooms (where kids tend to splash water aggressively over the edge), poorly ventilated bathrooms, or "wet room" layouts where the vanity is situated very close to an open shower zone. It provides absolute peace of mind against swelling.
Black Vanities vs. White Vanities: Which is easier to maintain?
Both make a stunning statement, but they require slightly different care.
- White Vanities: Whether gloss or matte, white is the easiest to maintain on a daily basis. It hides water spots, toothpaste splatters, and dust incredibly well. It also makes your bathroom feel brighter and more spacious.
- Black Vanities: A matte black vanity creates a striking, high-end, and moody aesthetic. However, just like a black car, dark surfaces tend to show dust and dried water spots more readily. They are easy to clean (just a damp microfiber cloth), but you may find yourself wiping them down more frequently than a white cabinet.
What size mirror should I pair with a 1500mm vanity?
Getting the mirror proportion right is crucial for a balanced look. You have two main options:
- One Large Mirror: Choose a mirror or shaving cabinet that matches the exact width of the vanity (1500mm) or is slightly smaller (e.g., 1200mm centred). This creates a grand, cohesive look and reflects massive amounts of light.
- Two Separate Mirrors: If you have chosen a double bowl configuration, hanging two tall, pill-shaped or arched mirrors (e.g., 450mm or 500mm wide each) directly centered over each basin creates a highly symmetrical, luxury-hotel aesthetic.
Will a 1500mm Hampton Shaker Vanity look too bulky?
Not at all. The Hampton Shaker Vanity is a timeless classic. Even at 1500mm wide, the architectural framing on the doors breaks up the flat surface, preventing it from looking like a heavy, solid block.
- Styling Tip: To keep a large Hampton vanity feeling light and elegant, choose a Matte White Vanity finish. Matte White reflects ambient light beautifully without the harsh glare of a gloss finish. Pair it with a marble-look stone top and Brushed Brass or Chrome tapware for a sophisticated, airy coastal look.
Fluted Curved Vanities feature a ribbed texture and rounded corners, making them the ultimate statement piece in contemporary bathroom design.
- Softening the Space: Bathrooms are full of hard, straight lines (square tiles, rectangular mirrors, straight glass). The fluted texture and sweeping curves of the vanity instantly soften the room, introducing a gentle, organic flow.
- Safety & Flow: The absence of sharp corners makes maneuvering around a large 1500mm vanity much more comfortable, which is particularly beneficial in tighter layouts or family homes with young children.
