FAQs
How wide should my bathroom mirror be compared to the vanity?
Getting the proportion right is the key to a balanced look. We generally recommend two main design rules:
- The "Exact Match": Choosing a mirror that is the same width as your vanity unit (e.g., a 900mm mirror over a 900mm vanity) creates a pleasing symmetry and clean vertical lines.
- The "Inset" Look: It is also popular to choose a mirror slightly smaller than the vanity (e.g., a 750mm mirror over a 900mm vanity). This leaves some breathing room on either side and prevents the mirror from feeling like it is "overhanging" the space.
- What to avoid: generally, we advise against choosing a mirror wider than your vanity, as this can make the room look top-heavy and unbalanced.
What is the benefit of a "Frameless" mirror in a small bathroom?
If you are working with a compact ensuite or powder room, a Frameless Mirror is your best friend.
- Visual Expansion: Without a heavy border to stop the eye, the mirror blends seamlessly into the wall tiles. This creates a "floating" effect that makes the wall feel larger and less cluttered.
- Versatility: Because they lack a coloured frame (like black or brass), frameless mirrors match any tapware finish. If you decide to change your taps from Chrome to Gold in five years, your frameless mirror will still look perfect.
- Easy Cleaning: No frame lip means no dust or grime gets trapped in the edges. A quick wipe is all it takes.
Can I use an LED Mirror as the only light source in my bathroom?
While LED mirrors are powerful, they are designed as Task Lighting, not general Ambient Lighting.
- The Purpose: The light from the mirror is positioned to illuminate your face directly, eliminating shadows under the eyes and nose. This is perfect for makeup application or shaving.
- The Room: For a fully lit bathroom, you should pair your LED mirror with ceiling downlights or an exhaust fan light to illuminate the rest of the room (the shower and toilet areas).
- Ambiance: Many of our mirrors feature "Backlighting" (light glowing behind the glass onto the wall). This creates a stunning, soft mood light perfect for a relaxing bath when you don't want harsh ceiling lights on.
Can I install these mirrors vertically or horizontally?
Most of our rectangular and pill-shaped mirrors are designed to be Reversible.
- Mounting Brackets: Check the back of the mirror (or the product specifications). You will usually find mounting points on both the long and short sides.
- Design Freedom: This gives you flexibility. You might buy a 900x600mm mirror and hang it horizontally over a small vanity, or vertically to create a full-length checking mirror on a side wall.
- Note for LED: For LED mirrors, check the position of the touch sensor. If you rotate the mirror, the button might end up in an awkward spot (e.g., on the side rather than the bottom).
How do I choose between "Cool White" and "Warm White" LED light?
Lighting temperature changes the mood of the room and how you see yourself. Fortunately, many of our mirrors feature CCT (Correlated Color Temperature) Adjustment, allowing you to switch between them.
- Cool White (approx. 6000K): A crisp, bright, daylight tone. Best for precision tasks like applying makeup, shaving, or putting in contact lenses because it renders colours accurately.
- Warm White (approx. 3000K): A soft, yellow/golden hue similar to candle light. Best for creating a relaxing spa atmosphere in the evening or for a gentle light during middle-of-the-night bathroom visits.
For a double vanity, should I use one large mirror or two separate ones?
Both options look fantastic, so it depends on the vibe you want to create:
- Two Single Mirrors: Placing two separate mirrors (e.g., two 600mm Ovals) over each basin creates a distinct "zone" for each person. It feels more like a luxury hotel and allows for wall lights (sconces) to be installed in the gap between the mirrors.
- One Large Mirror: A single, wide mirror spanning the full width (e.g., 1500mm or 1800mm) makes the room feel massive. It reflects more light and allows two people to use the mirror simultaneously without being strictly confined to their "side."
Are Framed Mirrors hard to maintain?
Framed mirrors (in Brushed Brass, Matte Black, or Gunmetal) add a stunning architectural element to the bathroom, acting like a piece of art.
- Material Quality: Our frames are made from moisture-resistant materials like Stainless Steel or Aluminium to prevent rusting.
- Maintenance: The only difference is the "lip" where the frame meets the glass. We recommend using a soft microfiber cloth to wipe this ledge occasionally to prevent dust buildup.
- Styling Tip: Match the frame colour to your tapware for a cohesive, designer look. A Brushed Brass mirror paired with Brushed Brass taps is a winning combination.
